Fall Season = Fresh Starts

Fall is here along with the new school year and, for me, this signifies a fresh start. Kind of like Anne of Green Gables when she said, “Tomorrow is fresh with no mistakes” or some such thing.

Fall is about spring cleaning, or “fall cleaning” if you will. I am embracing September with a major clean-out of my office/sewing room/knitting room/writing room. Furniture rearranging, moving out boxes of fabric for storage elsewhere (probably the basement, but hey, the hallway outside my room works well for now). I love the way everything feels more open, airy and new. Yes, new. Nothing is actually new, but it is funny how moving things around, removing a few things and adding a few forgotten items can make a space feel brand new. Fresh, with no mistakes.

I can’t explain why this urge to clean, sort, dust and purge has hit me so hard. It is sunny and warm outside; it is hot and dusty inside. The vegetable garden is green and lush; the latest dead houseplant is brown and shriveled. The hammock is tied to two trees; mattresses are being flipped. Am I finally embracing my inner homemaker or (gulp) simply using this pulse of productivity as a method of procrastination for another project I should be working on?

Hmmm…
