Happy Housekeeping

Glancing over the magazine racks at the grocery store, I could not help but roll my eyes at the headline “The best products and tricks to make every room sparkle.” Right. Unless, they have a product in there that will help me trick someone else into making every room sparkle, I am not interested.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a lazy slob or anything. I just don’t have a personal interest in such affairs of the home. I would rather let the floor get good and dirty before I commit to pulling out the mop and bucket. It saves on water and soap and the noticeable difference after removing so much filth is far more satisfying than regular upkeep.

Regular upkeep takes time away from other things I would rather be doing, which is pretty much anything other than regular upkeep. So if anyone can help me with this aspect of homemaking, I’m all ears. If not, I am going to keep glossing over those headlines and reaching for the fashion magazines.

’Tis the Season!

They say it is hard to be a kid at Christmas, but I think it is pretty hard to be a parent, too. The children may have to be on their best behaviour for Santa, but us grown-ups have to set a good example.

It is hard to encourage moderation when it comes to eating chocolates and Christmas cookies when all you want to do is wolf them down yourself. The stress of it is pushing me to dishonesty. When I sat down to eat my box of Toffifee and my daughter asked, “Do I like those?” my answer was “No.” I can’t seem to find time to make cookies, but I sure can find time to eat them. Every time my daughter’s back is turned, that is.

Thank goodness Santa does not keep a naughty list of parents, I just can’t handle the pressure to be good for one more person.
